“EUROPOLIS: THE TOWN OF THE DELTA” AWARDED IN LOS ANGELЕS

 

At the International Los Angeles Reel Film Festival in December 2009 the Bulgarian documentary "Europolis: The Town of the Delta" by Kostadin Bonev won Honorable Mention by the Jury. The film was nominated also in 6 of 9 categories: Best Documentary Feature; Best Documentary Feature Director (Kostadin Bonev); Best Documentary Feature Concept (script-writer Vladi Kirov); Best Documentary Feature Cinematography (Konstantin Zankov and Dimitar Mitov); Best Documentary Feature Editing (Toma Vasharov); Best Documentary Feature Original Score (Nikolai Ivanov).


"ANYTHING FOR YOU" WON SPECIAL MENTION OF THE JURY AT POTENZA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The Bulgarian short film "Anything for You" by Toma Waszarow won Special Mention of the Jury at Potenza International Film Festival 2009 in Italy.


THREE AWARDS FOR "EASTERN PLAYS" IN BRATISLAVA

At the 11th International film festival in Bratislava, 27th of November - 4th of December 2009, "Eastern plays" by Kamen Kalev won three prestigious awards: Best Director of feature film, Best Actor for Christo Christov and the Ecumenical Jury Award.


"ZIFT" WON SPECIAL AWARD IN SALERNO

At the 63rd Salerno International Film Festival, Italy, 23 - 28 of November 2009, the Bulgarian feature film "Zift" by Javor Gardev won the Special Award for Best foreign film.

Stefan Komandarev's film "The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner" won the Award for Best Script at the 2nd International film festival "Noah's Ark" in Moscow, 26 - 28 of November 2009.


“DIVORCE ALBANIAN STYLE” WON A AWARD AT PRIX EUROPE 2009

At the European TV festival Prix Europe 2009 the Bulgarian documentary “Divorce Albanian Style” by Adela Peeva won “Special Commendation” Award - Prix Europe 2008.

WON AGAIN THE AUDIENCE AWARD

"The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner" by Stefan Komadarev won the Special Audience Award at the European Film Festival in Eritrea, East Africa,  in November 2009.


TWO AWARDS FOR BULGARIAN FILMS AT THE 16th INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL "ETIUDA&ANIMA" 2009 IN CRACOW

The Grand Prix of the Festival "Golden Dinosaur" went to Dragomir Sholev for his short feature film "The Go Between" / "Posrednikat", Bulgaria, 2008.

Illian Metev won Honourable Mention for his film "Goleshovo" for excellent skills of documentary observation and a portrayal of passing.

At the 34th Golden Chest International TV Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the documentary "Somali Pirates" by Elena Yoncheva won the Bronze Chest Prize.  The TV film "Exiles" by Alexander Morfov won Galya Bachvarova Foundation Prize. "The Life of Others" by Christo Hadjitanev won Special Mention. And "Football Chameleons" by Stojcho Shishkov won the Special Mosfilm Award.


"OMELETTE" WON BEST SHORT AWARD AT RO-IFF

At the 1st Romanian International Film Festival - Ro-IFF, in Arad (26.09 - 4.10.2009), the Bulgarian short film "Omelette" by Nadejda Koseva won the Award for Best Short Film.


BULGARIAN BORN DIRECTOR WON

CANADIAN ACADEMY FOR TELEVISION AND FILM AWARD

"Ludovic" by Zlatin Radev, stop-motion series 26 x 12 that were shot in Sofia, won the Award for Best Animated Series by Canadian Academy for Television and Film.

The Bulgarian feature film "Eastern Plays" by Kamen Kalev won The International Confederation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) award in the Competition Programme – Features in Sarajevo 2009. The awarded film will receive CICAE support in terms of distribution, exhibition and audience outreach, through a network of 3.000 cinemas.

ONE MORE AWARD FOR "THE MOSQUITO PROBLEM AND OTHER STORIES"

At the First International Cinema Forum for Ecological Films in Moscow (30the of July - 3rd of August 2009) in the competition with 40 documentaries from 14 countries the Bulgarian documentary "The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories", dir. Andrey Paounov, producer Martichka Bozhilova, won the Award "Golden Knight".

At the goEast International Festival of Central and Eastern European films "Zift" by Javor Gardev won Honorable Mention by the Jury in the feature competition. "The Go Between" by Dragomir Sholev won the BHF-BANK Foundation Award in the Students' Competition. "Air Ace" by Svilen Dimitrov won Audience Award in the Category Animated and Experimental Films in the same competition. "Family Therapy" by Peter Valchanov won also the Audience Award in the Category Short Fiction films.

"Zift" by Javor Gurdev won the Best Director Award.

The two Bulgarian films were in the competition program "New Europe – New Names" for debut films from Eastern and Central Europe and the Balkans that showed 8 films by Latvian, Estonian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Croatian, Slovak and Bosnian directors.

"HALLO TAXI" BY IVAN VESSELINOV WON JURY'S SPECIAL MENTION AT BALKANIMA' 2008

At the International Animated Film Festival BALKANIMA in Belgrade "Hello Taxi" by Ivan Vesselinov won Special Mention by Jury's own choice for best characters.

Two years ago at the same festival he won the Award for achievement in Bulgarian and in Balkan animation.

At the 12th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival the Bulgarian feature film "The World is Big and Salvation Lurks around the Corner" by Stephan Komandarev won Special Mention by the Jury.

And the second prize for the film is the Award "Don Quijote" for best film issued by the Jury of the International Federation of Film Societies (FICC)

The Bulgarian State Award for Culture for 2008 was awarded to one of the most famous Bulgarian film directors Rangel Valchanov for his life long achievement in cinema art.

At the 24th Warsaw International Film festival 2008 "The World is Big and Salvation Lurks out the Corner" by Stephan Komandarev won the Special Jury Award from the Polish Filmmakers Association.


SPECIAL MENTION FOR "SEAMSTRESSES" IN KARLOVY VARY

The Bulgarian feature film "Seamstresses" by Lyudmil Todorov in the competition program "East of the West" was awarded with Special Mension by the Jury. It is the second international recognition for the film after the FIPRESCI Award at Sofia Film Fest 2008.

The Bulgarian comedy "Fly by Rossinant", director Georgi Stoev, took the Prize by the Director of Festival of European Film Smiles 2008 in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic.

The film was awarded "… for its witty portrayal of a clash of cultures in modern Europe in the form of a crazy comedy".

At its meeting the National Film Council put to vote 7 new Bulgarian feature films.

"Zift" by Yavor Gardev was chosen by the National Film Council for the Bulgarian nomination for "Oscar" for best foreign language film 2008.


TWO BULGARIAN FILMS WON THE TWO MAIN AWARDS FOR DOCUMENTARIES AT SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL

At the 14th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival 2008 the Bulgarian film "Corridor #8" by Boris Despodov won "Heart of Sarajevo" for best documentary film.

And the "Divorce Albanian Style" by Adela Peeva won the Human Rights Award.


TWO AWARDS FOR "INVESTIGATION"

IN BUCHAREST AND IN WARSAW

At the 2nd edition of the International Film Festival in Bucharest in July 2008 the Bulgarian feature film "Investigation" by Iglika Trifonova won the Award for Best Director.

At the 14th edition of the International Film Festival "Film Summer" in Warsaw "Investigation" took the Grand Prix for Best Screenplay.

Till now "Investigation" won 20 prizes at national and international festivals.


“DIVORCE ALBANIAN STYLE” WON SRG SSR Idée Suisse 2008 Prize

The Bulgarian documentary “Divorce Albanian Style” by Adela Peeva won the SRG SSR Idée Suisse 2008 Prize of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation.


THE BULGARIAN FEATURE FILM "ZIFT" BY YAVOR GARDEV WON TWO AWARDS AT THE 30th MOSCOW INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2008

The International Jury with chairman Liv Ullmann awarded the first feature film "Zift" by the prominent Bulgarian director in theatre Yavor Gardev with the Special Jury Prize "Silver George".

"Zift" won also the Prize of the Russian Film Clubs Federation for the best film in the main competition in which took part 15 films among which from USA, Italy, Israel an Russia.

"CORRIDOR # 8" BY BORIS DESPODOV WON EMERGING ARTIST AWARD AT "HOT DOCS" FESTIVAL 2008 IN TORONTO, CANADA

 

The new HBO Documentary Films Emerging Artist Award was presented to Boris Despodov for "CORRIDOR # 8" (producer: Martichka Bozhilova; Bulgaria), an absurdly funny and fascinating portrait of a misguided infrastructure project in southeastern Europe.

The jury said of the film: “For the Emerging Artist Award, our jury must have set a new record for consensus - it was pretty much immediate. We agreed right away. This film is gorgeous, hilarious, enlightening and irresistible.”

"CORRIDOR #8" WON THE PRIZE OF THE ECUMENCIAL JURY

AT BERLINALE 2008

The prize for a film from the Forum went to the Bulgarian documentary "Corridor #8" by Boris Despodov, producer – Martichka Bozhilova.

The Jury stated: "This film is an honest and open look at an area of the world suffering from a lack of connection. This film is really about hope, healing, and man’s shared humanity. In the Balkan countries of Macedonia, Albania, and Bulgaria, echoing the footsteps taken by the disciple Paul so long ago, the film asks, “Why do these countries have no means of common transportation?” As borders, walls, and fences dominate man-made politics, this is an important reminder of Christian responsibility and human progress."

"Great Preslav - From the viewpoint  of Eternity"

WON IN 2008 TWO EUROMEDIA AWARDS "ERASMUS 2007"

The documentary film by Konstantina Gulyashka "Great Preslav - From the Viewpoint of Eternity" won the nomination "Seal of Approval" for one of the three Grand Awards and the Award "Erasmus EuroMedia Country Focus Bulgaria 2007" by ESEC in Vienne.
